Desktop and terminal downloads
Updated
Preview releases
Download the latest approved preview build for your computer. Install and update manually; automatic updates are not available.
Minimum operating system versions are still being tested. Intel Macs, Rosetta, Windows ARM and Linux are unverified for these desktop candidates.
Standalone terminal
The terminal runs independently of the desktop app and uses the same Freecode account. Extract the entire ZIP before installing.
Mac with Apple silicon terminal (ZIP)
On Mac, open Terminal in the extracted folder and run ./terminal/bin/freecode install.
On Windows, open PowerShell in the extracted folder and run .\terminal\bin\freecode.exe install. Add the command folder printed by the installer to PATH if needed, then open a new terminal.
If a freecode command is already installed, it is preserved. Pass a different command folder to install and run the new command by its full path. Automatic terminal updates are not available for these builds.
Install and replace manually
On Mac, open the DMG and drag freecode to Applications. On Windows, extract the entire ZIP into a new versioned folder, then open freecode.exe. Keep the adjacent files together.
Before replacing a candidate, stop active work and quit freecode. Keep the previous app or extracted folder and a backup of your projects. To roll back, quit the new candidate and reopen the previous version. Keep one version running at a time. Saved projects and account state are retained separately from the application.
Already using the CLI?
Your existing CLI stays installed. Desktop’s optional terminal command preserves an existing unmanaged freecode command. Choose a different command folder and invoke that candidate by its full path while testing. Local and Cloud use the same account; their projects do not sync automatically.
